  • Tony Matthews: Invisible : The Essential Guide for Aliens Stranded on Earth
    Af Tony Matthews (2023)
Summary: What would it be like to live as a quiet, intensely introverted recluse, hermit and vegan in a world that likes to party loudly and excessively? What are some of the extraordinary lengths introverts will go to in order to hide, literally, from the rest of the world? What, indeed, is an introvert, or a recluse, and are we perhaps one of them without actually realising it? These and many other thought-provoking questions are answered in this funny, frank, honest, outrageously satirical and occasionally slightly risque examination of a world we rarely see and of people who are often almost invisible to the naked eye. Author and historian Tony Matthews takes us on a hilarious autobiographical journey through the mysterious and at times mystic existences of the reclusive and solitudinous vegan, delving into aspects of this strange world where 'invisibility' is a key element, and an intense love of all animal life a driving force. Invisible - The Essential Guide for Aliens Stranded on Earth, is a compassionate and at times a deeply immersive experience of another completely different human perspective. Tony Matthews guides us through a compelling and entertaining adventure that will keep you smiling, chuckling and, at times, laughing outrageously from cover to cover

  • Pete Baikie: The Absolutely Radio Show : The BBC Radio 4 Celtic sketch comedy
    Af Pete Baikie (2023)
Summary: Three series of surreal, fast-paced sketch comedy from the cast of the iconic TV show - plus S ketchorama: Absolutely Special and extensive never-before-heard bonus material Described as 'Channel 4's best-kept secret', Absolutely was a cult hit on TV, running for four series between 1989 and 1993. In 2013, the original cast (minus Jack Docherty) reunited for the Sketchorama: Absolutely Special for BBC Radio 4, winning a BBC Audio Drama Award in the Best Live Scripted Comedy category. It was hugely successful, and was followed by three full series of The Absolutely Radio Show . In this radio reboot, Pete Baikie, Morwenna Banks, Moray Hunter, Gordon Kennedy, John Sparkes and Gus Beattie revisit some of their much-loved comic creations, and introduce some hilarious newcomers. We listen in on the meetings of the highly confused Stoneybridge Town Council; hear pearls of nonsense from Calum Gilhooley, Edinburgh's most boring man; and the Little Girl gives us her take on topics including Tonsils, Teenagers, The Truth and Time's Up. Frank Hovis remembers his wedding day, the Reverend McMinn has a surprise encounter with Kim Jong Un in his local minimart, and we meet an angsty actor who is very concerned about the length of his co-star's credits. There's also non-stop breaking news and whooshing noises from the News News News team; the People's War, with stories from those who were nearly there; and a brand new, same-as-all-the-rest police drama about a TV detective who is always off the case. Plus, there are sketches exploring the downside of Facebook; the perils of box-set bingeing and mobile phone zombies; and songs about the joys (or otherwise) of middle age, being a self-help junkie, and sharing your birthday with International Carrot Day. Rounding out this collection are five in-depth interviews with the cast and crew, plus 'Absolutely Raw' (a one take no edit live show recording with all the bloopers, cock ups and retakes), deleted and seldom heard sketches. A must for Absolutely fans. Dive into this comical collection, kicking off with Sketchorama: Absolutely Special , introduced by Thom Tuck and featuring more characters including the Commissionaire, the Old Lady Artist and dysfunctional Swansea duo Denzil and Gwynedd. • Barry Cryer: You'll Have Had Your Tea
    Af Barry Cryer (2023)
Summary: The complete series 1-3 of The Doings of Hamish and Dougal. Hamish and Dougal, two elderly Scotsmen played by Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden, have for many years been a popular feature of the hit BBC Radio 4 comedy show I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue . Now they've got their own series, with Mrs Naughtie (Alison Steadman) and a local Laird (Jeremy Hardy), regularly keeping the duo busy. In Series One's The Musical Evening, Dougal hosts a night to remember when Mrs Naughtie performs her Dance of the Seven Voles, while in The Murder Mystery Hamish and Dougal try to solve the case of her surprise disappearance. Romance in the Glen sees Hamish find a rival in the Laird after falling for society beauty Lady Caroline Fitz-Neatleigh, but they soon make amends as the elderly Scotsmen assist the Laird with armaments for The Shooting Party. In Series Two, suspicions are raised when the duo are asked to dig a hole for a coffin-shaped wardrobe in The Vampire of the Glen, but they're quickly distracted by the chance to enter Fay MacAdemy in Fame Idol . The Laird returns to challenge the Scottish duo to a MacAthlon in The Fitness Club, and the pair then investigate who's been snitching in green ink in The Poison Pen Letters. Not ones for a peaceful life, Hamish and Dougal face The Monster in the Loch , before their first trip to London ends the series (in chaos) with Trapped. Gambling Fever , the first episode of Series Three, sees Hamish becoming addicted to gambling after winning a Sporran Cosy in the Glen MacLottery, while in There's Something About Mrs Naughtie , the lady comes into an inheritance and attracts the advances of Hamish, Dougal and the Laird. In The Subsidence Adventure , Hamish & Dougal advertise as 'builders to the gentry', while in Inverurie Jones and the Thimble of Doom , a treasure hunter plunders the local museum. Look Who's Stalking finds Hamish and Dougal employed as ghillies to the Laird's stalking party, and Porridge Votes sees the Laird standing in the local by-election - with Hamish and Dougal running against him. The six hilarious episodes of Series Three are topped and tailed by two festive specials, in which the duo celebrates Hogmanay and Burns Night in their own inimitable way. ©2023 BBC Studios Distribution Ltd (P)2023 BBC Studios Distribution Ltd
